The Natural England Board has agreed to begin work to assess whether the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) boundary should be extended. The long-awaited decision follows an assessment by local AONB partners back in 2013 that concluded there was evidence to support the position that the areas have sufficient natural beauty to qualify for inclusion in an AONB.

A new network of grassroots organisations has been formed to lobby for improvements to the planning system and provide mutual support for individual campaigns.

The Chair of the Guildford Joint Committee, comprising Councillors from Guildford Borough Council and Surrey County Council, has written this letter to the Chief Executive of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation supporting local residents' efforts to restore access to those parts of Ash Ranges that have been closed since April 2020.

Guildford Borough Council has announced that the planned new road bridge and later a footbridge to replace the level crossing at Ash Station has received an extra £13.9 million funding from central government.
