As residents in Wanborough had hoped, Guildford Borough Council’s Executive Committee voted at their meeting 17 July 2018 to confirm the Wanborough Fields Article 4 Direction. Eleven Wanborough residents attended the meeting to observe the vote.

The report recommending confirmation states in clear terms the benefits of retaining the open landscape provided by Wanborough Fields.

The Article 4 Direction’s requirement, that plot owners apply for permission to erect fences, allows residents to know what plot owners plan to do with their land. That provides an opportunity to comment if those plans do not meet with the definition of agriculture/grazing. Wanborough residents are monitoring for any new planning applications on the Fields.

It is understood that a retrospective planning application from the owner of Plot G, where a 2m fence was erected in April 2018 in contravention of the Article 4 Direction, is due to be submitted. This should provide some idea of the intended land use.
