Perhaps encouraged by the on-line petition instituted by a Wanborough resident approaching its 500 supporter threshold, Guildford Borough Council leader and lead councillor for planning has invoked the sought for Article 4 Direction on the AGLV land at Wanborough.

Should residents be unaware of this and were thinking of signing the petition please be aware that it has been closed by the council. The petition already had over 470 signatures.

An Article 4 Direction removes “permitted development” from agricultural land such as that on the north slopes of the Hog's Back at Wanborough. It means that new “paddock” landowners would have to apply for planning permission to:

  • Erect fences and looseboxes
  • Lay down hard-standing
  • Allow activities such as car boot sales or clay shoots to operate on their land

Congratulations to everyone who intervened to protect one of the most precious parts of our local landscape. This is of course no guarantee that development will not take place, but it does raise the bar and give residents a chance to comment on any applications.
