At the end of May, planning application 18/P/01014 was registered by the council planning department. The application states it is a "Hybrid planning application for the demolition of existing buildings and development of a total of 148 residential dwellings: full planning application for the development of 144 residential dwellings (Use Class C3), 70 bed care home (Use Class C2), new vehicle and pedestrian accesses off Keens Lane and Tangley Lane, 355 car parking spaces with associated landscaping and outline planning application for 4 self-build residential dwelling plots on land adjacent to Tangley Lane." This application is outside the Guildford Local Plan process.

Residents who know the area will appreciate the restricted access at Tangley Lane. This is a rural site in the Green Belt and thus requires the applicant to prove "very special circumstances" as required by NPPF para 87. Also, it falls within the 400 metre-5 kilometre mitigation zone of the Thames Basin Heaths SPA and is very close to Whitmoor Common. The application will be closed for comment on 29 June 2018.
